Back to the Grind…

Cover - Breaking DawnHello again, my friends!

Book Bytes is back from our summer hiatus!

I’ve been reading lots of interesting titles over the last few months, but the BIGGIE was a certain something that had teenage (and slightly older) girls out past their normal bedtimes. I’m talking nationwide midnight release parties that had nothing to do with a boy wizard!

I was out there with the super-fans at Lexington’s Joseph-Beth Booksellers late in the night on August 1st to get my hands on Stephenie Meyer’s finale to the Twilight saga, Breaking Dawn.

I’m glad it was released on a Friday! I buckled down and by Monday morning I had read the entire book. Though I’m terribly sad to see this narrative come to a close, I can honestly say that I enjoyed this book thoroughly. I was surprised at times with what we got to find out about the characters and I thought Meyer did a great job with pacing the story so that I hardly ever wanted to put the book down. I know that I fell asleep face-first in its pages at least twice because I was trying to find out what would happen next!

So, dear readers, what have YOU been devouring while Book Bytes was on vacation?

If you’re a Twilight fan too, let me know what you thought of Meyer’s latest.

If you read something else cool, tell us all about that, too!

Let the commenting begin!

I did love Breaking Dawn, but I can see where some students are not going to like the plot line with Renesmee. Some students will either find it a little creepy or gross. I thought it explained several things from the earlier books while also allowing everyone to find some peace. The worst part for me was the final showdown. I wanted more action….after all, we had been waiting for this fight since the second book when Edward went to Italy. I just found myself a little disappointed that there wasn’t any more physical action. But, in all, I was pleased with the way the book ended and I definitely think Meyer’s is setting things up for a possible series involving Jacob. There are many possibilities for future books.

Hi! I’m a high school English teacher in Manchester, TN, and I was searching Edublogs and came across your website. I’m very impressed! I love how you have this interactive forum where people can comment on different genres of books. I haven’t read Breaking Dawn yet, but I am about to finish Twilight. I don’t think that this series is just for girls. I have had several boys check this book out of our school library and they have loved it too. Speaking for Twilight, I think the book is well-written, despite its size, which is initially initially intimidating for most of my students. Anyway, I love your site, and I will be checking back on occasion!

My comment is on the latest “Twilight” book. First, I wanted to remind everyone that the movie comes out on November 21st! Let’s hope they do it justice! Next, I would like to say that, of course, I loved the latest installment in the saga of Bella and Edward. However, I wish that it could have been two books. I felt like there was too much information in the last book to completely comprehend. After all the struggle in the three previous books, I just thougth there would be a more severe and complicated ending. BUT……I still enjoyed the way the saga ended. It makes you want to just grab a tissue.

I agree with Mrs. Day and Mrs. Martin about a couple of aspects of the last book. First, it was very long, and though it wasn’t difficult to read, it was difficult to keep up with because there was just so much information. It could have been easily split into two books, making it a five book series instead of four. I also thought there would be more action in the end, because after three previous books, it just seemed like there would be, and to be honest I had set myself up for disaster. But, I was relieved for the characters when the book ended. To be perfectly honest, I was very sad to see the saga end, and I hope that Mrs. Day is right in saying that Meyer has set things up for a possible series with Jacob. After all, one of my favorite things about this book was that an entire section was devoted to Jacob’s point of view. I also hope that one day, Meyer will finish Midnight Sun, the Twilight story told from Edward’s point of view. I know it isn’t part of the series, but she is such a phenominal writer, that now I think I will be reading The Host. I hear it’s really good!

Breaking Dawn is awesome! I really hope they make a book about it and the rest of the saga! I think that besides Twilight, that Breaking Dawn was one of the best stories! I hope she finishes Midnight Sun!

I enjoyed all of the books, the only thing I didn’t really enjoy is how Breaking Dawn ended. I was hoping for a more exciting ending but it was kinda boring..
Other then that I thought the whole series was great.

Can’t wait to read Edwards version of twilight =]

i read all of the books in the Twilight series.
    they were extremely good.
the way she described the characters was really descriptive and she was VERY detailed when writing the story.
    i absolutely LOVED these books.
while reading these books i found myself drawn to Edward Cullen.
the way she describes him is really good.
and i love the way he’s so protective of Bella.
    its really sweet.
this makes every reader want a man like edward.
    i have 3 favorites.
Twilight of course, Eclipse, and Breaking Dawn.
i dont really like New Moon because edward left her. ):
    but he came back.(:
i dont really like jacob that much cause he keeps trying to come between bella and edward.
but it was really nice of him to take care of bella whenever edward left her.

thats all i have to write for now.
but i CANT wait till Midnight Sun comes out cause i wanna hear everything from Edwards point of view.
    (:
thank stephanie meyer for writing these books!!!!!!!!!
    i LOVE reading now.
    well them books.
    (:

Hello, again! I wanted to say that the ending of Breaking Dawn wasn’t what I wanted. It’s not like I wanted someone to die, but I wanted alittle more than that! I thought the Volturi were going to cause a greater disruption like a ravenous lion. But it was more like a full kitty.
I, too, went to a midnight party for the release of Breaking Dawn. It was at Joseph Beth and it was pure awsomeness. I waited in line with a few of my friends for about 6 minutes before I got the last book of the Twilight saga(tear). Once I got it and so did my friends, we screamed like the true fangirls we are! We weren’t even embarrased when everyone turned to look at us.
I’m proud to say I now own a Twilight tee, calander, moive soundtrack, poster, website, all books(in hardback), and the Bella bracelet(the one Jacob gave to her with the little werewolf, and Edward added a heart chaarm to it.
    Adios,
    Abby<3
