Week #3 – 8th Grade

2009 Book Projects - Spring · 8th Grade · Books

Hello again!

If you’ve been pacing yourselves, then you should at least have started your second book for this project over the weekend. As a result, we’re going to do a similar assignment this week to the one that kicked off the project. I’m curious as to where you are in the current process and always enjoy having some insight into the choices that you are making.

And so, without further ado, your questions for the week are:

  • What book have you selected as your second reading option for this assignment?
  • Why did you choose THIS book?
  • How do you think it will compare to the first book that you read? For example, do you expect to like it more? Less? As much? Is it in a different genre than your first book or are the books similar? Any of those thoughts (or one that’s entirely your own) will be what Mrs. Scott and I will be looking for in your answers.

Have at it!

My first choice for the book project Beauty Shop for Rent (which i am still reading) is pretty good I might have you confused but i read my second book before my first one but anyways I heart You, You Haunt Me is an amazing choice for a book.

Okay, the second book I chose to read from the list was TTYL, I have already completed this book.
I chose to read TTYL because for one, I thought it would be interesting because it is written in instant messages, and two I wanted to read Artichoke’s Heart but KATLYN was still reading it when I needed it, soooo I went ahead and read TTYL.
I didn’t like TTYL as well as This is What I Did: , it just wasn’t as good.
Even though I have already read my two books, I’m going to go ahead and read Artichoke’s heart, and do my project on it. I plan to leave another comment as soon as I’m finished with it (I haven’t started yet).

    =D
But, I guess I will wait. As you already know I read “TTYL” too and I liked “Sweethearts” better but it was still a good book!

I chose Savvy as my 2nd book.
I chose this book because it looked very intresting and fun!
I do not like Savvy as much at i did TTYL i think that TTYL is more me and Savvy is more of a fantasy person!

    [Reply]

    Mrs. Northcutt Reply:

You’ve read “The Giver”, right? I thought that Savvy sounded like it had a lot in common with that book.

    What do you think?

My seconed book is peeled i chose this book becouse it takes place in a quiet littole town. And it has to do with a oled abanded house that is suposaly hounted. I think that this book will compare to my first book becouse they both have a lot of mistery.

I really like Joan Bauer. “Peeled” is one of the books that I really want to read myself. You’ll have to give me a full report when you’re finished.

The second book i have selected to read is Sweethearts by Sara Zarr.
I chose this book because the cover of the book seemed cute and also a friend was talking about how good it was so i decided to read it.
Uhmm so far it hasnt been as good as my first book but im half way through the book and it is starting to interest me more and more :)

I know that you like books with dramatic plotlines, Katie, so I’m sure that you will enjoy this one. I’m interested to hear what you think!

    katie t Reply:

    Mrs.Northcutt
    i loved the book(:

it was so dramatic with all the twists of fate and things like that…it certainly kept me on the edge of my seat….

but im not sure which i liked more….’I Heart You, You Haunt Me’ or ‘Sweerhearts’ both were well worth reading

i was wanting to read ‘TTYL’ but i never did get to but after what i’ve heard about it i dont think it is as dramatic as i like(:

but im not saying its a bad book or anythingg.haha

    ttfn (:

Well my second book that I picked is The Night Of The Howling Dogs. I dont really know why i picked. I just wanted something fast and easy to read. Wesley said its a pretty good book, so. I’ll just have to read it and find out. I think this book will be better than my first book; The Hunger Games. The Hunger Games was pretty cool but it didn’t have much gore in it as I thought. And the main characters survived. Which I wanted them to die. And at the end it turned in to a love story. So I’m hoping The Night Of The Howling Dogs will be better.

    [Reply]

    Mrs. Northcutt Reply:

You and your desire for a bad ending! Maybe you should try the “Series of Unfortunate Events” books sometime. There’s always something awful happening to the characters in those!

I’m actually about to start “The Hunger Games”, so we’ll have to compare/contrast our opinions when I’m finished.

    Arthur Reply:

ok, sounds pretty good to me. You might like it. I thought it would be better than waht it came out to be.

    Howdy blogonians,

This weeks post question is….What book have you selected as your second reading option for this assignment? Why did you choose this book? And How do you think it will compare to the first book that you read?….
Well my second book is called “The True Adventures of Charley Darwin” by Carolyn Meyer.
I chose this book because I’ve actually tried to read this book but I didn’t really like it..but you know how your interests change! So I decided to give it another shot. I know it’s the Charles Darwin guy who came up with evolution..and I don’t agree with some of his theories, but thats a discussion for another time and place.
So far I think I like “The Alchemyst” better than this one because it had alot more going on and more actiony type stuff..which is my kinda…stuff.
    Well until next blog…..goodbye.

    Dylan .Y Reply:

hay I agree with you about how you said your interests change. Your book sounds realy good I hope you like it.cya.

    [Reply]

    Mrs. Northcutt Reply:

I actually thought you might like the Darwin book since you did enjoy reading “Blood on the River”. They seemed like similar types of historical fiction.

However, I will get directly to finding and buying the sequel to “The Alchemyst” and the new Percy Jackson! I’ve got to give you kids something to do until school’s out, right?

    [Reply]

    Trevor Reply:

Yes most definitely right!! I’ve gotta have somethin to take my mind off all the after testing drama!!!

Trevor I just finished the book The Night of The Howling Dogs. I think you will like it. It has some good acton in it. Its easy to read and I recommend it to anybody who wants to read a good easy to read book.

well for my 2nd book i chose “Call me Hope” by Gretchen Olson.I chose this book because i liked the background story nd description of the book.So far i really like it but i very seriously doubt it will even compare to my first book “The Adoration of Jenna Fox.”I fell in love with that book!!

    [Reply]

    Mrs. Northcutt Reply:

Hooray! I’m so glad that you liked “Jenna Fox”! It’s one of my recent favorites. What did you like best about it?

I loved that it was full of thought-provoking moral issues while also being the emotional story of a girl trying to find herself.

Hello My Fellow Americans/ Other International People,

The second book I have read Is “TTYL” by Lauren Myracle. I choose this book because I am a frequent IM’er. Sometimes I IM over homework, only on some occasions though! =D My favorite character in this book was Zoe. She sort of reminded me of one of my best friends, Becca. Also, I think of Maddie as two of my other best friends, Kyla and Katlyn. Then the other girl whose name is Angela reminds me of myself.

I chose to read this book just because I wanted to not for the project. I would like to read one of the mystery books but there aren’t any in right now! So, if you have one BRING IT IN NOW!

    Ashley thanks you!

I have selected shooting the moon by,Frances O’roark Dowell.

I chose the book because its about vietnam, and because it sounded like a good book for me to read.

I think they will be the same a little because they are bouth about vietnam, and they are bouth about young men going to war.

Some of my classmates reccomended it to me. “I Heart You, You Haunt Me” is different from my first book, “Me, The Missing, And The Dead” i deffinately liked my secound choice better.

My second book is I heart you,you haunt me. I choose this book bcause it is a love story also it has ghost in it. I think that it will be better than The graveyard book because the graveyard book didnt have much love stuff in it and I heart you you haunt me is ALL about love.

the second book that i picked is called i heart you, you haunt me and the reason why i picked this book is because someone told me this would be a good book to read and i thought the front cover of the book looked good to read. and i think this book is going to be better graceling because the first book talkes about killing people and about kingdomes and the second book talkes about this girl writes about her boyfriend and her friends and her family.
