It’s back!
Sorry for the delay in getting a post up this week, but we had an interesting Monday here at LeGrande, didn’t we? First the network was down and then the water turned against us! Maybe today will be calmer…
So anyway, I’ll get right to it. This week, I want to know something about not what you DID read, but about what you WANTED to read. I want to hear about the book that somehow might have slipped through your fingers!
JCMS students, you may choose to approach this prompt from the perspective that you MIGHT want to read one of the other books on our Project List on your own sometime in the future. The LG kids looked at all the books before checking out, so they made lists to help them get at least one book that they had been interested in at the beginning. I know that you JCMS kids are only reading one book for this, so tell us about at least ONE OTHER book on the list that grabbed your attention as you were choosing.
And now, the THREE-PART prompt!
- What book from your original list of “things on the Project List that looked interesting” did you NOT get to read? If there is more than one, feel free to share them all!
- Why did you originally want to read that book?
- Will you read it in the future (even without being assigned to do so)? Why or why not?
Pretty simple stuff, I think. I know that my personal list of “things I really want to read soon-ish” just grows and grows. I tend to have stacks and stacks of books around me all the time and it always seems like it gets bigger rather than smaller even though I read A LOT!
Personally, I just bought a book called Rampant by Diana Peterfreund that I’m dying to start. Seriously, it’s about killer unicorns so how could I NOT want to read it? Also, I’ve got Bunnicula Meets Edgar Allan Crow by James Howe, Teach with Your Strengths: How Great Teachers Inspire Their Students by Rosanne Liesveld, and the first Vampire Diaries volume by L. J. Smith! You can see how things pile up for me!
So, tell me about your future reading plans. It might help me get the library prepared! Or at least your Language Arts teachers…

Hello all!!
I just wanted to jump in on this post with all the excitement that is bursting out of me!! I just cannot stand it any longer! I finished “The Graveyard Book”, and what a great story that was!
Nothing like being raised by ghosts, right? ANYWAY, now I would like to finish, “The Hunger Games” from the list. I have a student that just finished it recently, and she seemed thoughly impressed with it. ALSO, I cannot tell a lie, and I have already started it! WOW! It is disturbing that kids are actually about to fight kids to the death, but I cannot wait to see who survives in the end! I am also trying not to skip to the end to see if Katnis (right?) survives! Any other lovers of “The Hunger Games”?

I’m not sure you saw one of my earlier comments about “The Graveyard Book” that compared it to Kipling’s “The Jungle Book”. I didn’t come up with that myself, but I think it’s so vivid! Bod – raised by creatures of the night vs. Mowgli – raised by creatures of the jungle. Interesting, huh?
And my love for “The Hunger Games” and its sequel “Catching Fire” really knows no bounds! I’m considering reading BOTH of them AGAIN just to savor them rather than just devouring them like I did on the first pass. And yes, Mrs. Martin, her name is Katniss and what a gal she is!
I love a strong, well-written female character – particularly in sci-fi and fantasy. Realistic ones are great as well, but I’m a sucker for genre fiction of all sorts and it’s good to know it’s not always such a “boy’s club”.
And seriously, who doesn’t love a good death match?

I chose to read Kiss of Life by Daniel Waters. It was between Kiss of Life and The Dead And The Gone by Susan Beth Pfeffer.
I origianally wanted to read The Dead and The Gone because I enjoy reading books that can actually happen in real life. A meteor can actually strike and change everything. Think about it?!?!
I will for sure read this book in the future. I read Life As We Knew It by Susan and it was amazing, this one will hopefully be wonderful as well!

If you’ve read “Life As We Knew It” already, then I would HIGHLY recommend “The Dead and the Gone”!
It’s more of a companion novel than a sequel and it’s really interesting to compare how the meteor strike affects a major city rather than a suburban sort of area. It’s also from the POV of a teenage boy rather than a girl!

I personally wouldn’t mind hanging with some friendly ghosts, but I suppose I’d have to meet one somewhere first! I can understand the desire to “get away from it all”, but I think I prefer the beach to the graveyard…

The notion of reinventing who others perceive you to be is attractive to both teenagers and adults. Does that idea play any role in your interest in this book? It’s certainly one of the factors that intrigued me.
The drama surounding the possibility of having that “new” life crash down around you is certainly something to keep readers on the edge of their seats!

Another book that I would have chosen to read if I could not read “The Adventures of Tom Sawyer” is…”The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn” duhhhh. I chose this book because it goes with the book “The Adventures of Tom Sawyer” and if you read my first blog i chose that book because it was about a boy that got in a lot of trouble, and trouble=a lot of action!!! Like gettin lost in a cave!!!
Then another book I would have chosen would be “The True Adventures of Charley Darwin” [I’m talking about two books I would have chosen is because Huck Finn is like the same book as Tom Sawyer, even though they really are not!
Any ways i chose this book because when i read the summary of the book it made me think of a book called “The True Confession of Charlet Dolle”. And I LOVED that book! How in the summary too it said dangerous vouage, that means a lot of action!!!!!!

I would have read “Thirsty” because, I enjoy vsmpire books and the summary caught my attention, mainly when it said “Chris thirsted for the blood of the people around him, whist trying to remain human.” The reason I would have read “How ya Like Me Now” would be because, I had several people suggest it to me after they, themselves read it.

If I couldn’t use my first book choice for the book project I would have read” Fight Game.” The reason I would have read that book was in the summary it says that a fighter has been arrested for a crime he did not commit. So he agrees to go under cover in a high tech fight club targeted for street kids. I would like to read this book as soon as I finish my first book project. That will be a goal I want to accomplish.

I chose this book because i liked the genre which is humor. it is about a girl who doesnt think she fits in with her family because she is overweight and her mom, dad, brother, and sister are not. her brother and sister are excellent in french, but she is not. her sister was fed up with her mom denying everything so she moved to africa. all the attention goes to her brother, until they get a phone call, that changes everything.

So, when you say “chose” do you mean “chose to write about because you didn’t get to read it yet” or “chose to read right now”?
I got a little confused by how you said it…
It’s a fantastic book, though!

“Knucklehead” is the autobiography of children’s author Jon Scieszka (who happens to be one of the funniest dudes on the planet).
“SCAT” is the latest environmentally-themed YA novel from Carl Hiaasen, the author of “Hoot” and “Flush”. Its central mystery is exciting and I loved how it kept me on my toes as I was reading!
I thought I’d tackle those since I haven’t seen students post about them and hopefully you can get some comments from your peers about the others!

I have a cousin in another district who is in high school and each week when I see him, he tells me I need to read Hunger Games. I didn’t think I would like it, but I’ve been wrong before (Ahem, Twilight!). So, I guess that one is on my list. The problem is that I really want to read Deep and Dark and Dangerous, I Heart You, You Haunt Me, and a million others, like Mrs. Northcutt! But with a child on the way, I keep finding myself reading baby books and they don’t make AR tests for those! Right now I am reading Down the Rabbitt Hole and another called The Lovely Bones, so I guess when I finish those, I’ll get started on the rest of my very long list, including those baby books. Sometimes I wish it was my job just to read books all day. I’d be really good at it!

I was wishing i could read Life I Once Had. But for some reason i chose a diffrent book.
When we was choosing our book to read I read the outline and love mysteries.
I will most likely read Life I Once Had just to learn what it was about. A few of the people in 7th and 8th grade read it and said that it was a good book

I wanted to read the book “I Heart You, You Haunt Me.”
I didn’t get to read this book because whenever I was about to check it out, it was already checked out.
I probably won’t read this book without being assigned because I don’t like reading.

One of the book on the project books i wanted to read was Just Out of Reach but no I did not get to read it. The main reason i wanted to read this book was because it had a picture of a hand reaching for a paddle on a rock climb wall. I hope I will get to read it. The reason is i love to climb rock walls and i know how it is to be just out of reach.

I wanted to read the book Dead and Gone. I wanted to read it because I wanted to what life would have been like if a large astoroid hit the moon. No I wouldn’t read this book now because after I read the first one I figured it wouldn’t be a good book because I didn’t like the first one.

I didn’t get to read the books (Generation dead) and ( Kiss of life) on my project reading list and i so badly want to. the reason why i want to start reading them is because in generation dead teenagers are dead but their alive to if you know what i mean and they live among us then kiss of life is the second book of the series. i am planning on starting Generation dead pretty soon and look forward to it. i want to read this even though its not part of my grade because it sounds like something i would like and give me something to do in my spare time.

Well I liked the book Unwind. i thought the idea of youre parents being able to break you down for body parts would be a weird but interesting novel. I probably will in the winter when farm work is toned down and i have hours at a time to read by the wood fire

1 book that I wanted to read but didn’t was hunger games.
I wanted to read Hunger Games because it was the book that every one said was good including Ms.Martin. Also I like adventerouse, fighting books and hunger games is both of those thing. My last reason I wanted to read this book was I thought it was the best book on the list but now I know it wasn’t.
I will probaly eventually read the hunger games because it seems like a book that is to good to pass up.
